Happy Friday, friends! Today I am sharing what’s been on my radar around the internet and in real life lately. There are a lot of things floating around my head lately and I couldn’t seem to get too deep into any of them (blame it on the pandemic brain), so I thought it would be fun to try a shorter format. Let me know what you think!
ONE // Emily in Paris
I started watching this show and it is SO. PRETTY. However, the acting is very meh and the characters are pretty cliche and unlikeable – besides Gabriel (swoon). I wasn’t really a big fan of it at first. Emily is kind of rude and awful in a cliche rude American way that I think is supposed to be charming but reads more uncultured and tone-deaf. I was ready to throw in the towel and quit watching, but then I found out that Darren Star, creator of Sex and the City, is also behind this show. Suddenly, something “clicked” and I started to enjoy it a lot more. The similarities between the shows are striking, right down to the unlikeable, underqualified main characters. It isn’t realistic in the least, but that’s part of the fun.
If you’ve been on the fence, try thinking of it as an ode to Sex and the City, then let me know what you think.
TWO // Colored Wine Glasses
I found these wine glasses while browsing this week, and I love them. My great grandmother had a similar set. They’re so classic and beautiful, and such a great price!
THREE // Philadelphia Civil Unrest
There has been a lot of civil unrest in Philly following the murder of a black man by Philadelphia police. We have had a curfew the past few nights and have gotten several alerts about staying indoors. The company I work for went as far as to encourage us to work from home if we might have to travel through certain areas of the city to get to work. It is heartbreaking to see how much pain people are in and to see the effects of systematic racism so close to home.
FOUR // TikTok Christmas Vibes
I’ve been watching “Christmas Vibes” TikToks since March and I’ve only been getting progressively more excited for Christmas since then. I’m probably going to decorate on November 1st.
FIVE // Fresh Sugar Lip Polish on Sale
The Sephora sale starts today, and my favorite lip balms are included! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the colors, but my favorites are petal, spice, rose, icon, and the clear shade. They are not kidding about the 24-hour hydration. This is literally the only lip balm that I NEVER have to reapply because it stays perfectly.
SIX // A Crazy Affordable Belt
I was looking for an affordable belt for some sweater dresses I’d like to be able to jazz up, and I found this one. The price is INSANE. Under $8?! Come on! It looks exactly like this Isabel Marant belt, but it’s 4% of the price.
SEVEN // Headspace Focus Mode
I’ve been having a lot of trouble focusing lately. I don’t know exactly why, but it feels like I have a lot of nervous energy and it feels like my mind is working too quickly to actually focus on any task. The only thing that helps is listening to something on Headspace focus mode. I don’t know how they do it, but I feel like all of the playlists and soundscapes grab onto that “nervous energy” part of my brain and occupy it, so all I have left is a clear and calm focus. These alone are fully worth the price of the membership, but I think you can listen to a few of them for free if you aren’t a member.
