The Game Plan

It’s no secret that my favorite “game” is fantasy closet, in which I make a wishlist of pieces and outfits I would wear if I lived in a certain climate or had certain kinds of events to go to. Typically, I’ll keep certain pieces and styles in mind for months – or even years – before making an investment. I don’t like spending money on clothes I don’t end up wearing, so I like to make sure that most of what I buy fills a genuine gap in my closet or will be something I can rotate in for years to come. The result of this is that my style tends to skew more on the classic side. I prefer to wait to see how long a trend I’m interested endures/how much I genuinely like it before adding it into my wardrobe.

This fall wardrobe wishlist is a reflection of “fantasy closet” items I’ve wanted for a long time that I’m excited to purchase now that I live in a cooler climate and items that will create cute, comfy, timeless looks for the upcoming season.

Outerwear

The longline cardigan is here to stay! I love this cozy style and think it really takes any outfit to the next level. There’s just something that looks so intentional about a long cardigan. Since I (and I assume a lot of other people!) am working from home for the foreseeable future, I’m especially looking forward to being able to throw this on top of a more casual top or dress to look presentable for zoom meetings – all while staying cozy and warm.

This black and white cardigan is perfect for throwing on for a zoom call for now and will work well as a layering piece when it’s time to go back to the office in person. This cozy sweater coat reminds me of a much, much pricier Max Mara cardigan from a few years ago. I think this will look great paired with pretty much anything.

Finally, I have been waiting for an excuse to buy this jacket for years. When I lived in Louisiana, I never really had a reason to have a casual jacket because it wasn’t that cold and if it was I was going to try to wear the one coat I had. Recently, I’ve noticed the mornings are already getting cooler and I’m not about to throw on a coat to take my dog out to go potty in September. I can’t wait for this to come in!

WFH-Friendly Tops & Dresses

As previously mentioned, there is a lot of working from home in my future! Over the past few months, I’ve found that I feel my best if I’m both put together and comfortable. Pajamas and t-shirts are great, but I don’t get my best work done in them. For fall, I want to add in this cute boatneck sweater, a super comfy tank for layering, and a comfy dress or two. The sweater and dress are great “now and later” pieces because they are both comfortable and cozy enough to wear at home and elegant enough to wear into the office.

Bottoms

I’ll admit, I’ve attended many a meeting wearing a button-down and running shorts. That worked great all spring and summer, but as it gets cooler I want to be ready to take my dog out without having to do an outfit change. However, I still want to be comfy! I somehow don’t own any black leggings, so I think this pair will be the perfect WFH-friendly wardrobe addition.

Similarly, I somehow don’t own any jeans that fit right and are comfortable. I’m really interested in this straight-leg pair. This style is great for working from home because it is a comfortable, relaxed fit that still looks put together

Booties

I am always wearing Birkenstocks. No exaggeration. I hurt my foot a few years ago and needed a structured shoe that provided excellent arch support, and Birkenstocks came through for me! I wear them at least once a day, regardless of the weather or what I’m doing that day. However, I have a feeling I won’t be able to wear sandals for much longer, but I’m not quite ready to give up my comfiest shoes! When I saw that Birkenstock has booties, they went straight to the top of my “to buy” list!

Remember how I said I like to play fantasy closet and how s0metimes I’ll have pieces in mind for years? I wasn’t kidding. I have wanted a bear of the L.L. Bean “Bean Boots” since 2012. However, as I mentioned, Louisiana just doesn’t get that cold, and if it rains you need knee-high rain boots to keep yourself dry. I thought I would end up in the northeast for college, but I did a full 180 and ended up in Arizona, which I doubt L.L. Bean even recognizes as existing because it is the last place where you would need a waterproof, warm shoe. As soon as I found out we were moving to the northeast, the first thing I texted my best friend was “I get to buy Bean boots!!!” So yeah. The excitement is real. I can’t wait to style these cuties!

What’s at the top of your fall wardrobe wishlist? Do you have any WFH-friendly staples I should check out?
