Why Decorate Your Apartment Like a Hotel?
There are a few reasons you might want to consider giving your apartment a hotel-inspired makeover.
For starters, it can be a great way to add a touch of luxury to your everyday life. If you live in a busy city, coming home to an oasis of calm can be incredibly refreshing.
What’s more, decorating your apartment like a hotel can also be a great way to make your space feel more spacious and open. By using light, airy colors and furniture, you can create the illusion of more space – perfect if you’re working with a small apartment.

Finally, hotel-inspired decor is also incredibly chic and stylish. If you’re looking to give your home a makeover that’s both fashionable and timeless, then this is the perfect option for you.
How to Decorate Your Apartment Like A Hotel
Choose Luxurious Bedding
One of the simplest ways to make your bedroom feel like a luxurious hotel room is to invest in some high-quality bedding. Soft, silky sheets and a down comforter will make your bed feel fit for a king or queen. And when you’re cozy in your bed, you’ll feel like you can conquer the world outside.
Relaxing and Soothing Artwork
Another way to make your apartment feel more like a hotel is to choose artwork that is relaxing and soothing. Hotel rooms often have neutral-toned artwork that doesn’t distract from the rest of the room. And while you may not want to have all neutral-toned artwork in your home, choosing a few pieces that fit this description can help to create a more relaxing atmosphere.
If neutrals aren’t your thing, there are plenty of options for colorful artwork that still creates a hotel-feel!
One key way that hotels use artwork to create a relaxing, soothing environment is by using size and scale. Think about the last hotel room you visited. How much was on the walls? Was it just a few larger pieces, or a lot of smaller ones?
Gallery walls have become hugely popular and create an instant cozy feel, but they can look really busy and add a lot of clutter to your space if you don’t do it right.
If you are going for a hotel-like decor style, choose larger pieces for your gallery wall – or even just use one or two large pieces of art to dry the eye upwards and create a sense of peace and balance in the room.
Add Indoor Plants
How do hotel lobbies manage to make such a grand and high traffic space seem both clean and inviting? I’m telling you, the secret is plants!!!
Indoor plants are a great way to add life (literally) to your space, and they have been shown to improve air quality, boost your mood, and even help you focus.
So if you’re looking for a way to make your home feel more like a hotel, adding some plants to your space will really make it feel intentional and take your apartment to the next level?
Don’t have a green thumb or worried you’ll make a huge mess? I can relate.
Thankfully, there are so many cute faux plants on the market. I’ve found the secret is to choose plants that naturally look a little bit waxy. Tropical plants fall into this category. Thankfully, these tend to trigger the ultimate “vacation mode” chemical in your brain. All of this is scientific fact, trust me.
If the tropics aren’t your thing, there are plenty of ultra-realistic alternatives for pretty much any plant you desire.
Hang Sheer Curtains
Sheer curtains are a great way to make your space feel more airy and open. They let in natural light while still providing privacy. And when it comes to creating a hotel-like space, they are an absolute must.
Think about the last time you stayed in a hotel room. I’m willing to bet that the curtains were sheer.
ISheer curtains are also a great way to make small spaces feel bigger because they provide the elevated look of well hung curtains without adding too much visual weight. Not only does your space look more put together, but it automatically looks bigger because your mind assumes curtains will make it feel smaller. If you have a small apartment, hanging some sheer curtains can make a world of difference.

Not to mention, they are incredibly versatile and come in a variety of colors and styles.
If you are in a first floor unit or in a brightly lit area and need blackout curtains…prepare to be the chicest person on the block.
Layered curtains add an air of instant luxury to any space and really add to the relaxing retreat vibes. Keep your sheer curtains pulled during the day for a little bit of privacy and plenty of light, then pull your second set of curtains at night for the ultimate cozy retreat. Use Trays for Organization
One of the things that makes hotel rooms feel so luxurious is the level of organization and how user-friendly everything is.
You can achieve this same level of organization in your own home by using trays.
Trays are great for corralling all of your smaller items and making them feel more intentional. Plus, they make it easy to grab what you need and go.
I like to use trays on my nightstand to hold my charging cords, chapstick, hand lotion, and other small items I need easy access to.
You can easily add a decorative tray to any surface that you would normally place something on and it will instantly elevate the space and make it look more organized.
This is kind of a weird aside, but I actually learned this trick working in a hospital. We had to gather a bunch of different vials for patients and the head nurse insisted that you always had to lay everything out either on a tray or on a paper towel. At first, I thought it was for sanitary reasons, but it turns out it was just to make it look organized!
To the untrained eye, it looked like we had just piled up a bunch of vials unless they were on another surface. Placing them on a tray made them look more organized and made the patients feel more comfortable.
If using trays to organize is good enough to make someone relax when they’re about to get 10+ tubes of blood drawn, it’s definitely good enough for your bathroom or vanity!
Choose Neutral Colors
Neutral colors are the backbone of any good hotel design.
They create a calming and relaxing environment that is perfect for unwinding after a long day.
If you want to create a hotel-like space in your own home, stick with neutral colors like white, cream, grey, and taupe.
You can add a pop of color here and there with pillows, throws, or artwork, but keeping the majority of your space neutral will create a calming oasis for you to relax in.
The best place to add neutrals into your decor? Bedding!!! There is nothing more luxurious than a hotel bed. Crisp white sheets and a fluffy white comforter will create the cloud bed of your dreams.
White towels will have the same effect in your bathroom. PLUS they are so easy to clean and keep crispy white. Just add a little bit of bleach to your laundry load and you are good to go.
Decorate with Mirrors
Adding mirrors to your decor is a great way to make your space feel bigger, brighter, and more hotel-like.
Mirrors reflect light and make any space feel more open and airy.
They are also great for adding a touch of glamour to your decor.
I like to use mirrors above nightstands, in entryways, and even in bathrooms.
Just make sure you hang them at the right height. You don’t want your guests to be able to see themselves in the mirror when they are using the bathroom!
Add Comfortable Seating
Another important element of hotel design is creating a space that is both functional and comfortable.
One way to do this in your own home is to add comfortable seating.
This could be a cozy armchair, a chaise lounge, or even just a bench at the end of your bed.
The important thing is that you have a place to sit that is comfortable and inviting.
You want your guests to feel like there is always somewhere that they are supposed to sit. When there are cozy, functional places built into your apartment they will instantly feel more comfortable and relaxed.
Opt for Rugs or Carpets
Rugs and carpets are a great way to add comfort, texture, and color to your space.
They also help to muffle noise, which is always a bonus in an apartment.
If you have hardwood floors, adding a rug is a great way to add warmth to the space or to separate it into functional areas.
I like to use rugs in bedrooms, living rooms, and even hallways.
They help to create a sense of space and can really pull a room together.
Another ultra-important facto to keep in mind when it comes to decorating your apartment like a hotel is functionality. When you’re staying in a hotel, you expect comfort and ease at every turn. You would never anticipate stepping onto a freezing cold floor first thing in the morning or having to change your behavior just to be comfortable inside the room. So, why not do that at home?
If you’re in a cold climate, rugs are key to making your space feel comfortable and inviting even on a cold winter morning! There is something magical about knowing that you won’t ever have to step onto a cold bedroom floor first thing in the morning.
Light Candles Throughout Your Home
And now for my FAVORITE tip… adding candles.
You know that feeling when you walk into a hotel and it smells…perfect? Luxury hotels give you an immediate sense of place as soon as you walk in. Before you even see the environment, you know you are in a thoughtful space because it immediately smells clean, luxurious, and inviting.
Adding candles throughout your home is the best way to make it feel like a hotel.
Candles add ambiance, scent, and warmth to any space.
They make a great addition to any room, but I especially love them in the bathroom and bedroom.
Lighting a candle when you get home from work is the best way to transition out of your day and into relaxation mode.
The perfect scent is also the perfect way to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable!
If you love a particular hotel scent or really want to take your ambiance to the next level, there are plenty of candles that smell exactly like luxury hotels around the world. Bonus points, they are super cute!!!
If you are not allowed to have candles in your space or prefer to have your apartment smell perfect as soon as you walk in, I highly recommend scented plug-ins. They might not be the most stylish touch, but you can easily hide them behind furniture if you don’t like the look.
There you have it! These are my top tips for how to decorate your apartment like a hotel. With a few simple changes, you can easily transform your space into a luxurious escape from everyday life. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!
