Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m sharing some great gift ideas for teenage boys.
Teenage boys are notoriously difficult to shop for. Every time you ask them for an idea, they will either grunt, say “I don’t know” or suggest something completely off the wall and out of budget (I’m looking at you, PS5!). I have a few strategies for finding teenage boy-approved gifts, as well as some concrete suggestions for when you’re stuck. Keep reading to see all my suggestions!
Gift Ideas for Teenage Boys – the Strategy
I think the best gift for anyone, including the teenage boys in your life, is a gift that is personalized to their interests, but that they didn’t necessarily ask for. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to buy something that they’ve asked for, especially if you’re able to get them multiple presents! However, I think the magic of the holidays really comes through when they get to unwrap something unexpected and thoughtful.
I have a specific strategy for finding unexpected, thoughtful gifts for teenage boys, so I thought I’d share!
Step 1
Identify their interests. Video games? Great! What kind? YouTube videos? Great! What are they about? Sports? Awesome! What’s their favorite team?
Step 2
Think about something related to their interests. Bonus points if this is interactive and not something they’ve necessarily dived into. For example, my little brother loves anime. He’s also interested in Japanese culture shown in anime.
A quick google search will show that Japanese food is a huge part of anime. So, let’s find some Japanese food.
Step 3
Find something multifaceted and interactive. Okay, so say your teenage boy loves anime, and you want to get him something related to Japanese culture and food. Books are great, but is he a big reader? Is that something he can get into right away? A book on Japanese desserts might be the perfect gift for a very specific teenage boy, but they also might not be that into it.
So, maybe you want to try getting him a yummy dessert instead. You see that matcha kitkats are huge in Japan, and think he might like to try some! This could be pretty hit or miss. You might get him a giant bag of matcha kitkats only to find that he hates matcha. However, a box of different Japanese desserts and candies that he can sample? Now, that’s something he can dig through, and there’s bound to be at least one thing he likes!
And that’s it! You’re done! Now, if you’re still super stumped, not sure where to start, or would rather buy something that any teenage boy is guaranteed to like, keep reading!
Gift Ideas Any Teenage Boy Will Love

mini pool table // vinyls (1,2) // chess books (1, 2, 3) // controller holder // aesthetically pleasing chessboard
Pool is a great game to play by yourself or with friends, and this set is perfect! They can play on a small table or on the floor. This is great entertainment that will keep them off their phones for a bit!
Kids are into the classics, which I personally am a huge fan of. The vinyl boom is still happening, so get your teenage boy an awesome album he can enjoy and maybe show off to a crush or two.
Do their parents a favor and give the gift of a niche controller holder. If I, an older sister, am endlessly annoyed by seeing controllers lying around, imagine how their parents must feel?!
Did you know there’s a chess boom happening? Neither did I! Apparently, teenagers are really into chess right now. It has become the new Minecraft – they watch hours of streaming videos of people playing! Honestly, I think that’s so, so cool. What a great thing to know how to play! These books are all considered chess classics, and any teenage boy will appreciate the tips and. tricks for improving their game. Throw in a nice chessboard, too! This will be fun for them to play with now and will look great in their home for years to come.

controller holders (spiderman, storm trooper, deadpool) // advanced lego kit // “masculine” hand sanitizer // funny hand sanitizer // pennyboard // drunk playing cards // weighted blanket
Controller holders are the gift that keeps on giving for both teenage boys and their parents. Organization is just about having a place for everything so everything can go in its place!
Bring them back to their childhood with this advanced Star Wars lego set! This actually might be what I buy my brother this year. It’ll be a fun project for him!
Ah, 2020, the year we all realized we should have bought stock in GermX. These “manly” scented or funny hand sanitizers will definitely be used frequently! I think these would be a great, funny, useful stocking stuffer!
Penny boards are such a great gift! These will be fun for jetting around the neighborhood or even just learning tricks in the driveway.
I got a huge kick out of these cards, and I think they perfectly fit what teenage boys find funny! Playing cards that look like they do when you’re super drunk? My brother would love these.
Last but not least, a weighted blanket! Weighted blankets are the perfect gift for anyone on your list, but especially for a teenage boy. I gave my brother one last year and he immediately used it and has slept with it every night since! If you haven’t tried one yet, grab one for yourself while you’re at it! This is a two-pack 😉
